Canadian Immigration From India

The major exodus of Indians to Canada took place at the end of 19th Century and it has been going strong ever since.

The majority of the population that migrated consisted of the tall and hefty Punjabi Sikhs. All of them were able to find adequate employment there as the majority of the work consisted of physical labor like felling of tress and rail construction. The pay there was miniscule in the terms of the Canadian currency but for an Indian where Canadian dollar is much stronger as compared to the Indian Rupee, the wages seemed generous for the work done.

Canadian Immigration From India Hence this concept of Canadian Immigration from India started like a fire all across the country and the numbers of semi skilled Indian workers in Canada began to raise much to the apprehension of the native white people.

This led to stringent immigration laws from the Canadian government to protect their native population.  The laws were that people who wish to enter Canada must be in the possession of at least USD 200. And they will have to travel in a nonstop voyage to make it to Canada. These laws were able to reduce the flow of Canadian Immigration from India to a required extent.

Since then numerous other laws have been passed and legal entry to Canada has become easier.  The governments of both the countries share a stronger bond hence people can commute easily between the countries. Nowadays there are number of outsourced skilled technicians who are working at the various levels of the Canadian economy.

By 1987, 7% of the Canadian population consisted of people of other ethnicity like Asians, Europeans and Africans.

The Canadian Immigration from India is still going strong as it has proved to be beneficial for both the countries.
