All over the world, Canada is the one that holds the most prized citizenships in the world. According to the survey conduced by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, every year about 250,000 people become new citizens of Canada.

For those who want to apply for Canadian citizenship or change or confirm your citizenship status in Canada, one first needs to determine whether one is eligible to become a Canadian citizen, secondly one needs to apply for the citizenship through various forms and take the citizenship test (age 18 to 54). The citizenship test evaluates your knowledge on Canada and evaluates language abilities. One needs to attend a citizenship ceremony if one is 14 years or older.

To be eligible to become a Canadian citizen, one must meet the requirements in all of the areas such as age, permanent resident status; time lived in Canada, language abilities, criminal history (prohibitions) and knowledge about Canada.

One needs to be at least 18 years old to apply for Canadian citizenship.

For those under 18, there are certain conditions that need to be met. To become a Canadian citizen, one must have permanent resident status in Canada. Applicants must have lived in Canada for at least three years in the past four years before applying. Children need not meet this requirement.

It is best to ask a Canada immigration consultant and know the procedure however the basic rules and procedures that one needs to follow are obtain an application package, complete the application form and attach all the necessary documents, pay the fee and get the necessary receipt and hand them over to the concerned department.

Some of things that you should check on before applying and mailing the forms and other documents are signing the application form, signing the photos, including receipt of payment, including photocopies of all the documents. The citizenship ceremony is the last step towards becoming a Canadian citizen. After the citizenship ceremony, one takes the oath of citizenship and receives citizenship certificate.
