Punjabis and Canada has been the centre of many jokes for quite some time. Do you know how it all started? It was the somewhere in 1904 when some of the Punjabi Sikhs decided to go to Canada for employment. Canada is those days was not as shiny and developed as it is now and was in a dire need of some manpower. While these Sikhs provided them with cheap and effective labor for various work like cutting of trees to building civic amenities, all the workers sent positive replies back home and that was the starting of Canadian Immigration from India.

As of now many countries have tightened their immigration rules to protect their native population but Canadian rules have been steady and it is still welcoming a lot of people from different parts of the world. The latest census tells the number of Indian immigrants in Canada to be around 29000. Most of them are permanently settled with all of their lives in complete order.

This policy of allowing people of different ethnicity mentioned Canadian Immigration from India can be attributed to the fact that Canada is still lacking in the employment sector. We all know that Canada has a huge reserve of natural resources but it lacks in the manpower to utilize all of them.

With the race for development heating Canada also wishes to make most of the abundant natural resources that is possess.

Canada provides us with an excellent example of globalization. As it is a home to various ethnicities like Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis, Iranians, South Americans and Europeans. Still they all may be at bitter ends in the rest of the world but in Canada the peace always prevails as people live with others in harmony and in the true spirit of brotherhood.

The major exodus of Indians to Canada took place at the end of 19th Century and it has been going strong ever since.

The majority of the population that migrated consisted of the tall and hefty Punjabi Sikhs. All of them were able to find adequate employment there as the majority of the work consisted of physical labor like felling of tress and rail construction. The pay there was miniscule in the terms of the Canadian currency but for an Indian where Canadian dollar is much stronger as compared to the Indian Rupee, the wages seemed generous for the work done.

Hence this concept of Canadian Immigration from India started like a fire all across the country and the numbers of semi skilled Indian workers in Canada began to raise much to the apprehension of the native white people.

This led to stringent immigration laws from the Canadian government to protect their native population. The laws were that people who wish to enter Canada must be in the possession of at least USD 200. And they will have to travel in a nonstop voyage to make it to Canada. These laws were able to reduce the flow of Canadian Immigration from India to a required extent.

Since then numerous other laws have been passed and legal entry to Canada has become easier. The governments of both the countries share a stronger bond hence people can commute easily between the countries. Nowadays there are number of outsourced skilled technicians who are working at the various levels of the Canadian economy.

By 1987, 7% of the Canadian population consisted of people of other ethnicity like Asians, Europeans and Africans.

The Canadian Immigration from India is still going strong as it has proved to be beneficial for both the countries.

The process of Canadian citizenship and immigration begins with an application form. This application is needed for Canada immigration (Permanent Resident) visa. For the convenience of applicants, several categories of Canadian immigration are available to choose from. Information on immigration and citizenship are updated on a regular basis. The time duration of immigration process vary from individual to individual because of several categories of immigration. One can find different application procedure on official websites but the time frame given there are historical in nature.

One can apply for immigration and citizenship under categories of Business Class Immigration, Federal Skilled Worker, Family Sponsorship category, Provincial Nomination or Quebec Immigration. If the applicant has already found a work in Canada, the process of immigration will be relatively fast.

While applying for immigration, the applicant needs to be aware of various qualification criteria. It will be also useful to know that immigration visas or permanent resident visas are provided to only qualified skilled workers, close family members of Canadian citizens, provincial nominees and business persons. If one is also applying for spouse or common law partner or children, their names must be mentioned in the application. All the dependent children must be below the age of 22. If children are above 22, they must be full time students. All the dependents will have to go through security and medical clearance requirements. The applicant should also maintain uniformity while applying and after the submitting application forms.

Once the applicant has been granted permanent resident status, he or she can sponsor names of other family members including names of parents. Initially the name of parents cannot be included in the application. Once granted the citizenship status, the rights are equal to all other citizens. It will be useful to note that different provinces have got different rights in matters related to citizenship and immigration.

Canada is one of the best places in the world to live in. It is the second largest after Russia with relatively less population. Canada is also known for being a safe place to live in. Interestingly, it is one of the rare countries in the developed category that is looking for immigrants. It is a known fact that immigrating to Canada is much easier than other lands.

That’s the reason, why people from all over the world of different ethnicity and cultures flock to Canada. This place offers a better living as well as more employment opportunities. It’s not really a surprise to know that Vancouver (one of the major cities of Canada) has been ranked as the best place to live in four successive years by prestigious The Economist.

The country offers several opportunities to those who want to settle in Canada. The influx of immigrants in Canada witnessed a rapid increase after the end of Second World War. The best part and the most fascinating one as well about this country is extremely low population. For a country with such vast lands and humungous size, such less population is quite uncomfortable but then that’s the thing which attracts immigrants. This reason is also crucial in the flexible and liberal policies set by Canadian government for immigration.

Canadian government has given preference to skilled workers irrespective of their nationalities. Country also offers several jobs and to sustain the healthy economy of the country, they require business people and skilled workers in several fields. According to one government estimate, more than one million people will enter Canada in coming years.

That will also provide a huge impetus to its economy. Apart from that, presence of large number of immigrants of different origins has added to the multi-cultural flavor of the country. Canada truly manifests cosmopolitan character.

Canada immigration Visa is required to live and work in Canada. Canadian Visa is a document which helps the person in getting Permanent Resident status provided he fulfills certain criteria. The status of Permanent Resident comes with certain conditions which are obligatory in nature. If the person does not fulfill the conditions and found lacking, the status can be revoked by the Canadian authorities.

The Permanent Resident status is also subject to Canadian residency obligations. One also needs to stay away from any form of criminal activities else, the status may be revoked. One important aspect is, person who has acquired Canadian Permanent Resident is eligible to apply for Canadian Citizenship only after 3 years.

One can download Canadian Visa forms from the embassy site and needs to fill it completely. Once the form-filling part is done, Immigration Visa Application (Application for Permanent Residence in Canada) needs to be submitted to the Canadian Immigration Visa Office.

The applicant can submit the form in the country of his citizenship or in the visa office where he is currently residing. However, the applicant needs to provide the accurate and honest information. If any discrepancies are found in the form, then there are good chances of it getting rejected.

Canada immigration policy is quite liberal in certain aspects like; the applicant’s foreign immigration status is not a hindrance provided the applicant fulfills all the requirements. But when it comes to some sort of criminal violations relating to immigration laws of foreign jurisdiction then visa forms are likely to be refused.

All the rules and regulations pertaining to Visa forms are subject to change. In fact, the applicable rules differ from person to person because of particular circumstances of every individual. One must also remember that if an immigration attorney represents the Visa application from then the chances of successful citizenship and immigration Canada permit increases tremendously.

All over the world, Canada is the one that holds the most prized citizenships in the world. According to the survey conduced by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, every year about 250,000 people become new citizens of Canada.

For those who want to apply for Canadian citizenship or change or confirm your citizenship status in Canada, one first needs to determine whether one is eligible to become a Canadian citizen, secondly one needs to apply for the citizenship through various forms and take the citizenship test (age 18 to 54). The citizenship test evaluates your knowledge on Canada and evaluates language abilities. One needs to attend a citizenship ceremony if one is 14 years or older.

To be eligible to become a Canadian citizen, one must meet the requirements in all of the areas such as age, permanent resident status; time lived in Canada, language abilities, criminal history (prohibitions) and knowledge about Canada.

One needs to be at least 18 years old to apply for Canadian citizenship.

For those under 18, there are certain conditions that need to be met. To become a Canadian citizen, one must have permanent resident status in Canada. Applicants must have lived in Canada for at least three years in the past four years before applying. Children need not meet this requirement.

It is best to ask a Canada immigration consultant and know the procedure however the basic rules and procedures that one needs to follow are obtain an application package, complete the application form and attach all the necessary documents, pay the fee and get the necessary receipt and hand them over to the concerned department.

Some of things that you should check on before applying and mailing the forms and other documents are signing the application form, signing the photos, including receipt of payment, including photocopies of all the documents. The citizenship ceremony is the last step towards becoming a Canadian citizen. After the citizenship ceremony, one takes the oath of citizenship and receives citizenship certificate.

Immigrating to Canada requires one to fulfill certain criteria and one of them being fulfilling certain points that would qualify a person under the Canada immigration point system. One needs a total of 67 points to qualify under this points system. This is especially recommended for a skilled worker for whom it is a good option If you are a skilled worker, this may be a very good option for you for immigrating to Canada. All individuals who have applied for immigration are assessed according to the selection system based on point awarded.

These points are calculated based on certain criteria such as
.	Age

.	Education

.	Language ability in English or French

.	Work experience

.	Validated arranged employment/designated occupation

.	Adaptability : spouse education, work and education in Canada, arranged employment, family member in Canada

There are many websites that provide online assistance in calculating these points through a question and answer format. Education is allotted 25 points, language is given 24 points, experience 21 points, age is allotted 10 points, arranged employment another 10, adaptability ten points which makes it a total of hundred points. Out of these hundred points, an applicant must satisfy a total of atleast 67 points so as to qualify for the immigration.

Individuals can take this test online as this will help one to decide if they want to apply to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker. If one is married or in a common-law relationship, both should take the test to see who scores the most points. The person who scores more points should apply as the principal applicant.

One will have to pay a landing fee of $ 975 CAD (over 22 years of age). If an applicant who has paid the fee is not landed in Canada, the fee is refunded. The Right of Landing Fee should not be confused with Canada Immigration fee (processing fee) which is $550 CAD.

Canada migration policies are a set of rules that the Constitution and the Government of Canada has laid to regulate the entry of each individual into the state of Canada. Canada immigration has existed since ancient times when Asian natives migrated to Canada by land.

In the present times as well, immigrants from all around the world come to Canada and thus, immigration lawyers in Canada have put together a set of policies and have developed Canadian immigration laws. It is under the present Canadian Immigration and Citizenship department of Canadian Government which is also known as CIC Canada that formulates the policies of Canada immigration. The department also develops systematic methodology so that they follow criteria to recruit economic class immigrants, and business class immigrants in to Canada.

The policy to apply for Canadian immigration is that the applicant is required to make the application using the prescribed immigration application forms that the CIC department provides. The CIC department of Canada also maintains records of the number of immigrants entering Canada, number of applications that are being approved, what are the pattern and the variety of people entering Canada and such other essential data.

Canadian Immigration policy is divided in two parts :
Temporary entry into Canada like a tourist Visa, visitor Visa, student visa, temporary work permit, Live-in caregiver, fiancée while in Canada, humanitarian and compensate ground while in Canada etc.

Permanent Immigration to Canada :
This is given to people of professional class or skilled worker class. The occupation will determine under what the application of immigration is being mentioned. This is usually given to people constituting the business class, the ones constituting the self employed class, family sponsorship or Government Visa. Thus, depending on the requirement, one can select the basis to apply for a Canadian Visa.

For people who are not Canadian residents and want to work in Canada need to posses a work permit. This work permit is the legal authority that comes in various forms and often requires advanced approval prior to eligibility to enter Canada for work purposes.

In Canada, one can receive two types of job offers – one temporary in nature and other permanent job. A temporary job offer is an offer of Canadian employment that is made for a specific period of time – 6 months, 1 year, etc. Untill and unless one receives a temporary work permit, one cannot start working. A permanent job offer in Canada is made for an indeterminate period of time for which one needs a Canada Immigration Visa.

One can also apply for a temporary work permit in combination with an application for a Canada Immigration Visa. The Citizenship and Immigration department of Canada (CIC) recognizes the concept of “dual intent” whereby, one can work in Canada temporarily and thereafter reside and work in Canada permanently.

To seek work permit in Canada, there are a lot of provisions that a foreigner can look forward to. These provisions fall under certain classifications like International Treaties such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Canada Chile Free Trade Agreement (CCFTA), or the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) etc.

The applicants who apply for Canada work permit also need to go through medical examinations prior to issuance of visa. This can affect the duration of the application process. Nature of the occupation also plays a major role in getting the work permit.

The benefits of obtaining a permanent Canadian job offer are that one receives the additional benefit of opportunities for successful application under the Skilled Worker/ Professional category and the Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) category. There are various strategies that people adopt to get work permit – select the one that best suits your requirements.
